Cleaning Cavities

Two posts in one week!! This is easy!

Of course one of the biggest fears I had of being a parent happened.....a kid with a cavity. Six months ago at our regular dental cleanings, our dentist noticed Diego had a very tiny "hole" or decay area right behind his top front left tooth. It was not a worry to anyone at the time because it was so small and they tested it for sensitivity and nothing happened. We were to make sure that during teeth brushing, Diego paid extra special attention to this area to prevent the spread of the decay. Well six months passed and we were back again a couple of weeks ago for routine cleaning. Just as Andy and I feared, the decay had grown, not by much, but enough for the dentist to worry that this tooth would give Diego trouble as he would still more than likely have it for two more years. So today we took Diego in to "clean" the cavity. It is what we told him anyway so he would have zero anxiety about it. Diego loves the dentist office and is always so well behaved there, we didn't want one little procedure to ruin his perception. 

As we stepped in the room it was like anything else. Then the dentist came in and said, "Okay Diego, ready to fix that cavity?" Diego nodded, he was too busy watching Jack and the Neverland Pirates. Then the dentist turned to me and said." Mrs. Stearns, would it be alright if we used a little laughing gas on him? We won't need any novicaine for this one." His question came as he placed the mask on Diego's face so my answer was..."Sure, I guess. It's safe right?" To which of course I was assured he would be fine.....and he was!!

I was WAY more nervous for him than he was but our big boy did it! Sat still and. Was very patient through the whole process...all 15 minutes of it!!!

All in all it was a great experience and just totally solidified my love for our dentist and the office! If anyone is looking, seriously, Moore Dentistry on Olio and 116th is the BEST family dentistry in Fishers, IN!! 

When it was all over we were still all smiles...although a bit "tingly" from the laughing gas. Thankful for zero side effects and a happy, dentist loving boy!
